Sun salutation A vs B: what's the difference?
Both sequences warm the body and link movement to breath. B adds chair pose and warrior I, which makes it longer and more demanding for the legs.
Short answer: sun salutation A (Surya Namaskar A) moves through mountain, forward fold, plank, chaturanga, upward dog and downward dog. Sun salutation B adds chair pose at the start and warrior I on each side, with extra vinyasas, so it's longer and works the legs harder. Most classes teach A first, then B.

Questions
Which is harder, sun salutation A or B?
Sun salutation B is harder. It adds chair pose and warrior I on both sides, so it's longer and works the legs more, with extra vinyasas in between.
How many sun salutations should you do?
A common pattern in vinyasa and Ashtanga is 3 to 5 rounds of A, then 2 to 3 rounds of B. Beginners can do 2 to 3 rounds of A only.
What is a half sun salutation?
A half sun salutation (Ardha Surya Namaskar) is the standing part of the sequence only: mountain, upward salute, forward fold, halfway lift, forward fold, upward salute, mountain. It's a gentle warm-up without plank or chaturanga.
